well, we did it: we have successfully (more or less) moved into our new home in lexington, kentucky! our first week as residents of the bluegrass has been a total whirlwind (an understatement...), but it's been a whole lot of fun, and we're really happy to be here.
in the months, weeks, and days leading up to our move - and, to be honest, for most of the journey to kentucky - I felt pretty apprehensive about the idea of starting over in a new city. my husband and I were very settled in new york. we had our regular routines, our favorite restaurants, our apartment, our conveniences (helloooooo delivery everything), and leaving all of that comfort behind for something relatively unknown was very scary. but, now that we've arrived in kentucky and have had our first full week here, I know that we're going to love having a more "normal" life (very little about life in manhattan is truly normal...). sure, we miss new york madly - and the big apple will always have a piece of both of our hearts - but we'll visit regularly enough to get our nyc fix, and in between visits, we're definitely going to enjoy living in more than 600 square feet!
there are still a million and a half things to do before we can consider our move complete (including my favorite: decorating and outfitting my new emma mckinstry office-studio!), but we have found a bit of time around all the moving madness to start getting acquainted with our new city. over the july 4th weekend, we went to an annual Patriotic Concert at Transylvania University (which was awesome), drove around a few neighborhoods, and I, of course, started scoping out the shopping situation. monkee's is adorable, and there are some fantastic antique furniture stores (room service and scout standing out as two immediate favorites), which I will definitely be frequenting as we put together our new house. we haven't gotten into the restaurant scene here yet, but I'm dying to try out national provisions, which I've heard is fantastic. might have to make eating there a top priority this weekend...
It'll be a few weeks still until everything is truly settled (both personal and with emma mckinstry), but I plan to keep writing about everything we discover in and around lexington, here on the blog, and if you have any local suggestions to throw out, leave them in the comments below! I hope you're all having a great week so far and, as always, thank you for following along with all things emma mckinstry!
